COPE Health Solutions’ Medical Assistant Program is an innovative joint effort of COPE Health Solutions (CHS) and partnered health systems to provide an affordable and convenient way to enter the field. Over the course of several months, participants in the program will gain the skills and foundational knowledge needed to succeed as a medical assistant in a clinical environment through virtual self-study lectures as well as in-person training guided by experienced professionals in the field.

What is a Medical Assistant?

A medical assistant is a healthcare professional who supports providers (doctors, advanced providers) and other medical personnel. Most often employed in a clinical setting, a medical assistant performs many routine administrative tasks such as updating and filing patient records, scheduling follow-up appointments and managing billing and bookkeeping. In some U.S. states, including California, medical assistants are also authorized to perform certain clinical responsibilities such as recording vital signs and preparing laboratory specimens.

How Can the COPE Health Scholars Medical Assistant Program Help You Transition into a Career as a Medical Assistant?

The Medical Assistant Program prepares its students with a robust and comprehensive curriculum providing practical knowledge and clinical experience needed to thrive in the in-demand medical assistant field. At the start, participants will take part in virtual classroom lectures covering foundational knowledge. Students will then apply the concepts in lab and clinical settings, working alongside doctors and other healthcare professionals at one of several Adventist Health facility.

The COPE Health Scholars Medical Assistant Program will prepare graduates for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant exam. After the first training cohort, it will seek Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools’ programmatic accreditation. It will then prepare students for the Certified Medical Assistant exam.

Most importantly, graduates will gain exclusive access to medical assistant openings within Adventist Health.
